Custom measurement solutions

Measuring on the shopfloor during or in-between production steps and translating these data real time into actionable information is challenging, yet it offers great opportunities. Argobora has become an expert in this field by combining its broad experience in both measurement and software together in a project as well as product driven approach.

A robust measurement solution is essential in tackling some of the industry-defining challenges faced by manufacturers of large structures and components, and vehicles for energy generation and transportation: a continuous tightening of dimensional specifications, and a relentless competitive pressure to make processes faster and more efficient.

Argobora plays its part by offering a spectrum of solutions, ranging from smart and easy to use human machine interfaces to empower shop floor workers with 3D measurement devices to completely integrated measurement assisted assembly lines.

Measurement assisted assembly

Measurement-assisted assembly refers to a manufacturing process where measurements techniques are used to guide and optimize the assembly of components. It involves the integration of measurement systems into the assembly line to deliver maximum efficiency and quality.

Delivering a MAA solution requires expertise in both Metrology and Software.

Metrology Challenges

  • Right choice of technology for a given measurement task
  • Robust, fast and accurate measurement procedures Intelligent handling of error messages

Software Challenges:

  • Collecting real-time data from different measurement devices
  • Communication protocols between measurement devices, production machines, company networks & platforms
  • Data analysis- algorithms
  • Feedback and feedforward loops to machines and operators

Argobora has the right mix of expertise in metrology, software development and project management to implement complex measurement assisted assembly processes.

GENERATORassembly at

In 2019, Siemens Gamesa partnered with Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence and ARGON to develop a measurement-assisted assembly process for the stator of their offshore wind turbines. This collaboration led to the creation of Argobora and today this integrated assembly line has expanded to encompass both stator and rotor measurements.

The solution by Argobora enables SiemensGamesa to manufacture first- time-right, high-performance generators with an unseen level of precision. This positions them to meet the growing demand in the Offshore Wind industry effectively.

3DMA, a human machine interface

Complex measurement solutions will only be successful among shopfloor workers if it is robust and easy to use. We refer to it as "Coffee Machine Principle", using these systems should be as easy to use as a coffee machine.

The software platform '3DMA' (3D Measurement Assistant) was created to fill the need for a flexible human machine interface that can cater for a variety of workflows and allow for user management and communicate with a variety of devices.

3DMA allows production operators to routinely use sophisticated 3D measurement devices like laser trackers and laser radars on a day-to-day basis to create digital twins of the parts that have been produced. This can be purely for quality purposes, process monitoring, but also for creating a digital 'certificate of conformity' for parts that are handed over to the next production phase or shipped to the client.

BLADEscan

The world's first shop floor measurement solution for wind turbine blades spanning 100m and beyond. Using 3DMA, operators are easily instructed to complete a complex work flow using an ARGON Measurement Vehicle and a Hexagon ATS600.

FLANGEscan

FLANGEscan uses a Hexagon ATS600 non-contact laser tracker powered by 3DMA to inspect the flatness and circularity of flanges that are critical in the support structures and foundations of a wind turbine (towers, monopiles, transition pieces). This is done up to 5 times faster than traditional inspection techniques and much more data can be generated.
